[mod.L., pl. of *scelid-, scelis, f. Gr. σκέλος leg.
The formation was perh. suggested by Gr. περισκελίς leg-band. The Gr. σκελίς rib of beef is a later form for σχελίς.]
The posterior or pelvic extremities of mammals.
